Sports Medicine Shoulder Replacement Knee Surgery Hip Arthroscopy Elbow & Ankle Joint Replacement

Dr. William McLaughlin is a fellowship-trained sports medicine and shoulder surgeon who specializes in complex and minimally invasive surgical interventions. He is dedicated to treating athletic injuries of the musculoskeletal system, with a special focus on the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, foot, and ankle — as well as hip, knee, and shoulder joint replacement.

From Athlete to Surgeon

Before attending medical school, Dr. McLaughlin played NCAA ice hockey and was an All-Academic athlete. He then attended Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society — representing the top 10% of his graduating class.

Dr. McLaughlin's research portfolio includes authoring more than 40 peer-reviewed publications. He has presented at national and international conferences, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and AOSSM Specialty Day.

Philosophy of Care

Dr. McLaughlin is passionate about helping patients of all ages and athletic levels. He believes in offering compassionate care and state-of-the-art solutions to patients with sports injuries and arthritic conditions of the hip, knee, and shoulder joints.

Having been a competitive athlete himself, he understands the physical and emotional impact of injury — and the burning desire to return to sport. That lived experience shapes how he communicates with patients, sets realistic expectations, and builds individualized recovery plans designed for each person's goals.

Every treatment decision at Advanced Bone and Joint begins with listening. Dr. McLaughlin takes time to fully understand each patient's history, lifestyle, and goals before recommending any course of action — surgical or otherwise.

Dr. McLaughlin maintains an active research agenda with more than 40 peer-reviewed publications to his name. He has presented at leading national and international orthopaedic conferences, contributing new knowledge to the fields of sports medicine and joint reconstruction.
