How do I schedule an appointment with Dr. McLaughlin?+
You can book an appointment online using our scheduling link, or call our office at
(636) 241-9807. We offer appointments at three convenient locations: St. Peters, O'Fallon, and Wentzville, MO.
Does Dr. McLaughlin offer non-surgical treatment options?+
Yes. Dr. McLaughlin always explores conservative, non-surgical options first whenever appropriate. This may include physical therapy, bracing, activity modification, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections, or PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy. Surgery is only recommended when conservative treatment has been exhausted or when the injury clearly requires surgical intervention.
What insurances does Advanced Bone & Joint accept?+
Advanced Bone & Joint accepts most major insurance plans. Please contact our office directly at
(636) 241-9807 to verify your specific coverage prior to your appointment.
How long will my recovery take after surgery?+
Recovery timelines vary significantly depending on the procedure, the patient's overall health, and how well they adhere to their rehabilitation protocol. Minor arthroscopic procedures may have a recovery of a few weeks, while major ligament reconstructions or joint replacements can take 6–12 months for full functional recovery. Dr. McLaughlin will give you a realistic, individualized timeline at your consultation.
When can I return to sports after surgery?+
Return-to-sport is based on meeting specific functional and strength criteria — not a fixed calendar date. Dr. McLaughlin uses objective testing to determine when it is safe for you to return. Please refer to your specific PT protocol for return-to-sport milestones, and discuss your goals at your post-operative appointments.
Can I get a second opinion?+
Absolutely. Dr. McLaughlin welcomes patients seeking second opinions. Please bring any prior imaging (MRI, X-ray) on CD or digital format, along with any operative reports or prior treatment notes. We are happy to review your case and provide an honest assessment.
What should I bring to my first appointment?+
Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications, any prior imaging (MRI, X-ray), prior surgical or medical records related to your injury, and completed new patient forms if available. Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any remaining paperwork.
Does Dr. McLaughlin treat non-athletes?+
Yes — while Dr. McLaughlin has a strong background in sports medicine and treats many athletes, he cares for patients of all activity levels and ages. Whether you are a weekend warrior, a sedentary adult with arthritis, or a competitive professional athlete, he will provide individualized, evidence-based care tailored to your goals.
